After a three year break our Annual Wine Festival is back. Rebranded and reimagined; the event has been named "On Cloud Wine". It is being held at the Sandman Hotel on April 22 from 7:00 to 10:00PM. In addition to 16 Wineries there will also be food supplied by 4 different local food vendors. Also we will have live music at the event. Guests will also get to bid on a silent auction and we are working on a fantastic door prize. For our first year we are limiting attendance to 150 guests. Tickets are $100 each and only available online prior to the event through the following website: The website is live for ticket purchases now and we will continue to update it as the food vendors and sponsors are confirmed. CONGRATULATIONS to the Wine Festival Committee for their hard work in getting this event organized. Please let your friends know about this great event.

Mark your calendars! On July 23rd at 7:00 AM we will be having Leeza Zurwick, owner of Happy Gut, give a presentation on how Probiotics can help your gut stay healthy. Leeza Zurwick is the founder of Happy Gut, a company specialized in water kefir products. The company grows and sells water kefir grains, along with starter kits for people to make their own, and bottled water kefir beverages. Happy Gut operates on Leeza’s family farm in Ootischenia and she has made it her company mission to hire people with disabilities. Water kefir is a fermented probiotic beverage which is good for your gut, healthy and delicious. It’s an under-the-radar cousin to kombucha, but much faster to make, and tastier. One of the greatest challenges has been to introduce this relatively unknown product to the marketplace so Leeza focuses on teaching about gut health, the necessity of consuming fermented foods and how to brew your own water kefir. Previous to Happy Gut, Leeza was a special needs educator and was employed by school district 20. Happy Gut sent Leeza on an entirely new and enthusiastic trajectory which caused her to learn about creating a sustainable business, making it profitable and surviving the ups and downs of being an entrepreneur. Today, Happy Gut products are sold across Canada and the US and was featured on Dragon's Den in 2019. ********************** ************************* **************************************

On July 2nd at 11:30 AM we will be having Dr. Katherine Oldfield give a presentation on “Immune Competence and Our Microbiome - Who, What and Why you want this now”. Dr Oldfield notes that as we begin to open up BC and mingle with more folks, optimizing our immune system is a timely topic. In the Kootenays we have local food, wonderful gardens and plenty of room to roam in the outdoors. This is a perfect setting for working on your immune system. Dr Oldfield will cover, a quick recap of how our immune system work, important takeaways to improve immune function, how and why it's important to improve diet & incorporate local, homegrown and fermented foods, decrease stress, get adequate exercise, and optimize our gut biome and important nutrients and herbs. Dr Redfield notes that this is not a talk about COVID-19 or treatments for COVID-19. Rather, this is to help empower you to improve your immune system.

This morning (June 25th) we had our first in person meeting since the start of the pandemic. At an outdoor location where we recognized physical distancing it was a joy to see members we haven’t seen in a while. An advance team sanitized the seating and tables, and there were hand sanitizers available at each table. Based on this successful meeting, we will be scheduling further outdoor meetings along with our ZOOM meetings. Check our calendar for more details on meeting times and locations.
